Typically prices start around $20k – 25k for a full renovation excluding fittings, fixtures and appliances for a good quality renovation and includes benchtops, electrical, plumbing, appliance installation, bulkheads, splashback tiling, caulking, rubbish removal and a clean-up so that it’s ready to start using! The average price for a kitchen renovation is around $30k -35k excluding fittings and appliances.
Smaller kitchens renovations typically start around $20k. The prices are cheaper than average because there is a smaller amount of cabinetry and benchtops. But the plumbing, electrical and other costs are similar to larger kitchens.
Ikea kitchens prices are based on flat-pack cabinetry of standard sizes only for a self-install. If you include the cost of design, selecting and flat-pack assembly and the disadvantage of limited cabinetry sizes then Ikea kitchens are not much different to custom made cabinetry price. With custom made cabinetry you get an exact match to the kitchen space you have and the most efficient utilisation available – especially important with smaller kitchens. You also get proper solid backed base cabinets (which you don’t with Ikea) and better quality hinges and drawer runners. The Ikea benches are also of standard size and normally won’t include stone as this requires a specialist stone mason. Remember too that the Ikea prices do not include plumbing, electrical, the extra time costs of flat-pack assembly and installation, appliance and fitting installation, removal of old kitchen and rubbish removal, builders warranties, bulkheads and plaster repairs and cornice etc. Once you add all these costs in then it can actually cost more than a professional custom made full service kitchen company, such as Bloq Bathrooms and Kitchens would charge.
